Scanimation:
pictures that move on paper.

The barrier-grid trick from old picture books: slice 2 to 6 frames into thin strips, weave them together, and a sheet with clear slits shows one frame at a time as it slides.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop your frames

2 to 6, in order. Bold shapes on plain backgrounds work best.

  2. 2

    Watch the demo

    See it move on screen.

  3. 3

    Print both

The sheet on clear film, the picture on paper, same size.

Tips

  • Wider stripes are easier to line up by hand.
  • Fewer frames give a brighter picture.
